Church Leadership

our presbyterian system of leadership

Our Presbyterian sytem of leadership empowers all God’s people to take part in the church life and leadership.
Our primary leaders are elders and pastors.

Ruling Elders

Ruling elders are church members (whom we call ‘covenant partners’), elected from the congregation. They are ordained to the ministry of governing the local congregation as part of the Session, which is like a spiritual board of directors. Elders are given authority and responsibility, along with pastors, to oversee the spiritual health of the congregation as well as the congregation’s faithfulness to God’s mission.

Pastors

Pastors are teaching elders called primarily to preaching, teaching, and equipping God’s people for ministry in the church and beyond. Pastors have college degrees and advanced seminary training. They are in accountable relationships as members of a local presbytery.

Deacons

Deacons support the congregation’s ministries of compassion, witness, and service. They lead ministries that nurture fellowship and caregiving within and beyond the congregation. The session supports and oversees the ministry of the deacons.
