Day 1 // Exodus 16

Focus

It’s one thing to think about how God has provided for you in the big picture; but it’s often harder to see how He is providing for you on a daily basis. How do you see God providing for you right now?

Read // Exodus 16

Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way, I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions. (Exodus 16:4).

Reflect

It’s our duty as believers to trust in God every day by walking in faith and obedience to His commandments, and this is exactly what the Lord expected of His people in the wilderness. They had to learn how to trust God for their very life as He provided for them day in and day out. Even though they would be tempted to store up the manna and quail, to trust in their own power, their own wisdom, and their own idea of how they should live, they had to learn to set that aside.

When we live like the Israelites and grasp tightly to how we think we should live, with our fists clenched over the direction and control of our lives, we think we are doing our best to produce our best life but instead the result is a rotting, decaying mess.

Do you ever struggle to believe that God will provide for you? Why is that?

Do you make sure to prioritize actively trusting in Him or do you first make sure your own needs are met and only then consider God’s plans?

Pray

“Lord, I rededicate my life and my future to you right now. Help me to trust you with all I am even in the smallest moments of my day. Teach me what it means to fully live committed to you.”

Apply

Take some time today and memorize Matthew 6:25-27. Commit it to memory in an effort to ground it deeply in your heart. Ask a friend or family member to try it with you.
