Sarah and I made this decision with all the mix of emotions you can imagine, and maybe a few you can’t. We are thankful for sharing in the life and ministry of our Trinity family. We truly can’t begin to envision how life will change. But we DO know God has good plans for Trinity and for us in the next chapter. In that we can trust implicitly.
It’s amazing to look back at nearly 15 years at Trinity and 43 years of ordained ministry. I’ve served here longer than with any other congregation. We’ve experienced and accomplished so much together. Bless the Lord!
Why announce now?
I am committed to providing for the smoothest and most orderly transition possible. During the next 10 months, the search for the next Lead Pastor can proceed while I continue to steward our mission, vision, and message. We can maintain stability and momentum through this season by our continued focus on the Lord and trust in each other. You may recall we followed the same process with Ron Oldenkamp. His early announcement allowed us to conduct our search while Ron continued to serve faithfully. Then Ron “passed the baton” to Mike and Glyn with a time of overlap to orient them and bring them up to speed. The results have been amazing.
What’s next for Trinity?
The session will start planning the search for the next pastor, beginning with asking our churchwide nominating committee to nominate a Pastoral Search Committee. You’ll get more details soon, but suffice it to say the session, staff, and presbytery are well-equipped to conduct a fruitful search. My heart is full of love for you all and gratitude for our life together. Trinity is as spiritually strong and healthy as it’s ever been. I am committed to finishing strong—running the race faithfully to the end of my time with you. Sarah and I covet your prayers and support even as we will be in prayer for you.
Faithfully yours,
Douglas J. Rumford
