Matthew 26:59-75
Peter Denies Jesus
69 Meanwhile, Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A servant girl came over and said to him, “You were one of those with Jesus the Galilean.”
70 But Peter denied it in front of everyone. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said.
71 Later, out by the gate, another servant girl noticed him and said to those standing around, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.”
72 Again Peter denied it, this time with an oath. “I don’t even know the man,” he said.
73 A little later some of the other bystanders came over to Peter and said, “You must be one of them; we can tell by your Galilean accent.”
74 Peter swore, “A curse on me if I’m lying—I don’t know the man!” And immediately the rooster crowed.
75 Suddenly, Jesus’ words flashed through Peter’s mind: “Before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know me.” And he went away, weeping bitterly.

6 “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’”

Peter Denies Jesus
15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”
“Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”
16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”
17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. 18 Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” 19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!”
VBS OFFERING:
Homes of Hope, Tijuana, Mexico
Over the past three years, Trinity Kids has raised money during VBS to build two homes in Tijuana, Mexico, with Homes of Hope. This year, our partnership with Homes of Hope continues, focusing on Jesus’ emphasis and helping others as “fruit” of trusting in Him, highlighting how small efforts by many can empower and encourage an entire community.
In the beginning of its ministry, Homes of Hope set out to alleviate poverty one family at a time. What they found was that by giving a family physical protection, other benefits surfaced, including health benefits (such as alleviating asthma caused by sleeping on dirt floors and pneumonia common during the rainy months when mattresses and clothing often become soaked), socio-emotional benefits ( a home gives a sense of dignity and pride, as well as hope for the future and a more positive outlook on one’s future), educational benefits (stability at home improves school attendance an has proven a factor for kids to stay in school), and economic benefits (when families no longer have to pay for housing materials, they can support their family in other ways).
Now, over twenty-six years later, the fruit of this ministry continues to surpass expectations. Homes of Hope now employs over two dozen former Homes of Hope recipients, proving that simple acts of kindness have great power – like breaking the chains of generational poverty. Building a faith-filled community is the best way to do sustainable missions.
Our focus for VBS is discovering what it means to be part of God’s kingdom and finding life within it. We’ll learn how to live with purpose, courage, and faith. We’ll be sharing more about Home of Hope each day through stories and videos, then participating in activities that simulate activities on a home build and proclaim to our congregation that these kids are ready to be “Living Proof of a Loving God” – on both sides of the border.
Help us in encouraging your camper to be creative in helping us reach our goal of funding one full house in Mexico through our VBS offering. By talking about the Home of Hope mission, taking on extra chores or fundraising through bake sales and lemonade stands, we know these kids can do a mighty work and make a lasting difference in a community just like theirs, just south of theirs.
